The Ugg-ly Truth

As of late, I have been agonizing over a fashion situation. I know I am about six years late to the conversation, but I have finally come around to considering the purchase of Uggs. At first encounters, I found Uggs clumsy and anything but feminine. But as the temperature drops and my fashion motivation decreases, the thought of rolling out of bed and throwing on leggings, a cozy flannel shirt, and comfy Uggs is rather tempting.

Before I take the plunge of a $200+ investment (which is a lot for my thrifty self) I need to weigh all sides. For example, has the Ugg phenomenon run its course? And if so, what is their comfy replacement? That is why I am turning to my trusty readers. What do you think I should do? Uggs or no Uggs?!

  1. for those cold mornings when you're grabbing coffee or lounging around the house, uggs are a great choice. they're not terribly fashionable, but oh are they comfy! i say go for a pair after xmas so that you can find some on sale.

  2. My recommendation would be to make your decision soley (ha ha - no pun intended) for the comfort/warmth and not for fashion.

As for the investment, Uggs last forever. And I mean forever so you won't regret the purchase!!

  3. I wrestled with a similar debate not so long ago. I received a pair of pseudo-uggs from an ex and wore the heck out of them, although in the end I really wanted to burn them ala Angela Bassett as "Bernie" in Waiting to Exhale and ended up gladly trashing them when I received the real McCoy the following Christmas. I wear them from almost 5pm Friday to 8am Monday (unless I'm being seen on the social scene which is very rare). I agree that they're best if worn, not for fashion, but for comfort and convenince. It's so easy to slip them on con (with) or sans (without) socks over leggings or jeans and super cute with a hoodie or oversized plaid button-up. I think you should definately make the investment and will find you will wear them much more than you anticipated. They are super durable, obviously warm, and couldn't get any more convenient. Your hardest decision my friend will be deciding between the more basic, run of the mill uggs or the more fashionable ones. Don't wait till after the holidays! you need something to get you thru the shopping season and there are plenty of deals out there!

  4. I think you should ignore the UGG-LY boots and get a cute pair of suede slouchy boots that you can wear with a warm fuzzy pair of socks.

The only Uggs that I find remotely cute are the knit ones that you can fold down and that removes the warmth that you're looking for!

  5. I vote for the UGGs, but hit up the stores after the holidays for a good sale!

  6. You gotta go with what feels right. If you've considered them for some time and still can't seem to pull the trigger, perhaps you should ask for them as a gift. Maybe that will ease your purhcase anxiety and you'll find youself pleasantly surprised by the comfortability they provide. After all, being comfortable is an expression of fashion too, right? And, if you're like me and your closet is full of shoes already... what's one more pair?

  7. i am having the same debate, my husband HATES them and says that they are not my type of shoe, however i am looking at the comfort factor, i work in a day care and wear leggings and jeans daily so they would get lots of use, however i would be getting the fake uggs. my biggest issue is what color?

  8. I too have held out on buying the UGGS, mostly because I didn't find them cute and worried that my feet would be too hot...even in MN. But this season the sweater UGGS came out and I found myself gravitating to them online and in stores so I finally tried them on. Consesus: I never want to take them off! They are amazingly comfortable and I love the versatility with the sweater boots in that you can slouch, fold them over or wear as tall boots. I can honestly say I am a convert and am considering buying more. Advice- Do it!

Though i don't own a pair myself, they look comfy. You look great in anything and can make anything 'fashionable' Go for it if you want them.

  10. I love my Uggs! So comfortable and warm. I bought mine last year and they still look brand new. Although if I could go back - I would get the sweater Uggs, I think they are adorable and more versatile.

  13. I thought that the uggs were going to be a short-lived fashion trend too. So I held out until about a month ago & finally gave in because I also needed new house shoes & though why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Luckily, I found a great pair of fuggs (fake uggs) at TJ Maxx for only $35. Both of my sisters have several pairs of the real ones & when I compared the only difference was the tiny logo on the back. But now after seeing how much I love them & wear them everywhere it would have still been a wise purchase if I had sprung for the real deal. I've seriously worn them to work (on casual fridays) & I often keep them in the car so I can change out of my work shoes so I don't have to be uncomfortable for 1 more second if I need to run errands before I go home from work. And my hubby thinks they are cute (just not sexy)!
